Visits around the campsite between the sea and the mountains
During your vacations, take advantage of the numerous possibilities of visits around the campsite in Fontès. You will be able to discover one of the most beautiful villages in France, enjoy sport walks, or simply relax on one of our fine sandy beaches. Discover the traditions of our territory and taste our local specialities.
Our commune Fontès is located in the department of Hérault, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region and close to Adissan, Cabrières and the Château-Abbaye de Cassan. We are therefore called the Fontésols.
In a superb region, but too little known, "there is something for everyone", you will discover our friendly village of Fontès, its fountains, the Clock Tower and the Church of St Jean (XIVth century) without forgetting the wines at the Cooperative Cellar. The possibilities of visits around the campsite are numerous.
You won't miss to visit Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, which is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Very visited, it has kept its medieval imprint, its craftsmanship and its abbey listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city of Molière, Pézenas
Pézenas nicknamed "the Versailles of the Languedoc" is also the city of Molière and is only a few minutes away from the campsite. The opportunity to stroll in its pedestrian streets animated by its crafts and its market every Saturday all day long, every Monday of July and August find the Estivales from 7pm to 11pm to come and taste the specialities of the producers and craftsmen in a festive and convivial atmosphere.
Sète, its port and the bassin de Thau
Sète is the birthplace of Georges Brassens. It is a good place to stroll around the port and experience the atmosphere of the Sète nautical jousts and enjoy its folklore from June to September. You can also discover the 9 locks of Fonserane in Béziers or sail on the Canal du Midi, very appreciated for its calm.
Not far from the campsite you will find local fruit and vegetable producers, shops, supermarkets, fast food outlets, flea markets and other markets. You can also enjoy oysters, mussels and shellfish from Bouzigues or Mèze, local products from the Etang de Thau
The Salagou Lake
About ten minutes away, windsurfing enthusiasts will find themselves on the Salagou lake and discover its swimming, its red earth banks and the Cirque de Mourèze. 5 kms away, the Hérault valley and its small beaches, also ideal for fishermen or canoeing. A few kilometers away, the Olivettes dam, a relaxing area with swimming and picnic.
One day at the lake is enough to make a walk on the banks and no longer be on our regional land but in a different world with the colors of basalt and volcanoes.
Here and there, you will have the pleasure of practicing different sports activities including hikes in this area where ancient volcanoes were active.
For those who love the seaside, the immense beaches of Marseillan are about twenty minutes away, as well as those of Cap d'Agde or Vias.
The Hérault region offers lovers of idleness and swimming miles of fine sandy beaches between Grau-Du-Roi and Vias. You will be able to practice beach sports in the blue waters of the Mediterranean.
A little further afield
For day trips, you can go to the Petite Camargue to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Or head to Perpignan or, in a more exotic setting, meet the free-roaming wild animals in the Sigean African reserve. You can also discover nearby Spain, or even the Port Aventura theme park!
